The
Almond Tree Group of men and women create a wonderful selection goods
ranging from clothing for men, women and children to bracelets of hand crafted jewelry and accessories.

Beading
This group began simple assembling bracelets and
necklaces. They now create their own beads through the extrusion process.
Many of these beads are then hand painted in an eclectic variety of patterns,
textures and colours.

Batik fabric is created when plain white cotton
goes through multiple stages of placing wax on the fabric and then immersing the
fabric in dye. Once dry, the wax is taken off and a pattern is revealed.
This can be achieved in numerous ways.
The
fabric may first be dyed to establish a base colour and then wax is applied in
order to create a pattern with the background showing through. This may be
done repeatedly depending on how intricate a pattern its creator wishes to make.
After each application of dye the fabric must dry before the process can
continue. This is a time consuming process which results a stunning array
of colours and patterns. Each and every piece of fabric is completely
unique as it is impossible to duplicate a pattern.
This material is then used
to make clothing, quilt style purses, wallets, cloth covered journals and book
bags.

Tree Group member in Accra, Ghana.
